Writing School

People write for all sorts of reasons. I'm here for writers who want to write better.

No two writers are the same. But writing is a craft, and there are some things that all good writers do to hold a reader. These things can be taught and learned.

The school

I'm the only teacher. If you enrol you'll work only with me. And our subject matter will be your writing.

How it works

If you're interested, drop me a line. Tell me a little about yourself, your writing history and your writing ambitions. By all means, send me something you've written. I'll let you know if I think I can be of use to you. To this point, there's no cost. Then it's up to you whether you enrol or not.

If you do, we'll work together on your writing by email.

Cost

Because I see writing as a trade and a craft, I charge the same hourly rate as my plumber. That's $85 + GST

(2 hours minimum, payable in advance.)

Money-back guarantee.

If, after the first session, you don't find it enlightening, just say so. I'll give you your money back.

Me

I've been a professional writer for 25 years. I've had over 20 books published either in New Zealand or internationally, and my work's been translated into Korean, Chinese, Czech and American. I've written books of travel, a novel, a memoir and close to 3000 newspaper and magazine columns. I've been New Zealand Columnist of the Year several times.

In the 15 years before all that, I taught English to adults and children in a variety of countries. And before that I gained a degree in English literature from the University of Cambridge.
